Our Studio

At the heart of Shimell and Madden is the studio a quiet, focused space where every piece of our jewellery is designed, made, and finished by hand. It’s here that ideas become form, where raw materials are transformed through time-honoured techniques, and where our conversations with clients begin.

Every piece of Shimell and Madden jewellery is designed and made by us, Luke Shimell and Emma Madden, in our East London studio. We are a two-person team, handling every stage of the process ourselves, from initial sketches to the final setting of gemstones.

Our studio, located in Haggerston, is where traditional goldsmithing meets contemporary design. We work at the bench every day, using age-old techniques alongside modern precision tools. Many pieces begin with raw metal alloy that we melt down and draw into wire by hand, a process that gives us full control over material, form, and finish. Every stone is set in-house under a microscope, ensuring both accuracy and the personal attention each piece deserves.

We also welcome clients to the studio by appointment. Our showroom sits within our working space, so when you visit, you're stepping directly into the heart of our making process. You'll see the tools we use, the work in progress on our benches, and gain an insight into how your piece comes to life.

Consultations, whether for a bespoke commission, engagement ring, or to explore our collection, are a chance to speak directly with the makers. We believe in thoughtful conversation, clear communication, and a collaborative approach. The same people you meet in the showroom are the ones who will design and craft your jewellery.

We work at a deliberately small scale, meaning every piece takes time. It’s a slow, considered way of making, and one we believe results in jewellery with lasting meaning and integrity.
